Restoration Mortar
Where conservation issues are of primary concern, EasiPoint Restoration Mortar is an English Natural Hydraulic Lime mortar able to accommodate slight movement due to settlement, weak foundations or thermal changes, without cracking. It also allows for the migration of moisture typically found in historic stone or brick structures.
EasiPoint Restoration is unique as the only gun-injected mortar to incorporate BBA-certificated (99/3581) English Natural Hydraulic Lime from Blue Lias, complying with European Classification NHL 3.5. By modifying the formula during manufacture it is possible to create strength and setting characteristics ranging from feebly, through moderately to eminently hydraulic.
After the initial hydraulic set, 60 per cent of the lime remains as free lime which continues to carbonate slowly, providing maintenance and improvement of properties over the years.
Because the reaction with water promotes hardening of hydraulic lime, EasiPoint Restoration Mortar is able to set in very damp conditions or even under water, making the formulation eminently suitable for use below ground level or in areas subject to prolonged dampness.
The EasiPoint Restoration range uses specially selected coloured aggregates to lend the exposed surface the appearance typical of historic buildings constructed using traditional Lime Mortar.
Two grades of EasiPoint Restoration mortar are manufactured a standard mortar featuring mixed aggregates graded up to 3mm, and a coarse version with 2-3mm aggregates. The coarse grade is suitable for situations exposed to harsh weathering, such as marine environments, tidal zones or applications where an early set is required. Though initially subdued in appearance, the aggregates can be exposed by mild abrasion, or left to weather to form an aesthetically compatible, authentic finish over a relatively short period of time.
Where the mortar is required for narrow joints, both aggregate content and size can be adjusted to produce a mix pumpable into joints down to width of 5mm & depth of 75mm.
